The Importance of Being Thankful

Image
Welcome back, it's been awhile. I haven't been in a blog mood so I haven't bothered to try writing. Hopefully you had a nice summer and fall. We're well on our way to winter here. It's even started to snow. The day after Halloween my neighbor put up her Christmas lights and earlier this week she posted pictures of her fully decorated tree and living room on social media. I rolled my eyes a little and pondered yet again how some folks rush ahead to Christmas and forget to appreciate this season for what it is. Thanksgiving isn't a very exciting holiday so I get why some skip ahead with decorating enthusiasm. Eating... we do that every day. Eating in excess, we do that often too, at least here in America. Gathering with family you might not get along with- also not thrill inducing.  Thanksgiving is important as a holiday for other reasons besides eating, though. We're supposed to pause here in the dark time of year and spend some time thinking about the things

Repotting My Peace Lily | Fresh Start to 2021

Welcome back, it's been awhile. I had intended to post this last Sunday, but alas, life has happened. So there's two posts this week- you can check out the other one here . Hopefully your 2021 is going smoothly. New years means fresh starts, and this year my long-struggling peace lily got a fresh pot. This plant has been through a lot of change with me. I brought her home when I first moved in with my boyfriend (who is now my husband). She survived the move from our old house to the new one over a year ago, and while happy in the new digs, was pretty glum looking. I started by dusting her off with a damp paper towel as gently as I could. I plan to water her in the shower once a month from now on to keep the dust down (which is advice I found while researching how to do this on the internet). After dusting, I trimmed her little brown tips. I'm horrible at remembering to water, so she's suffered brown tips and droop a lot in her life. I spruced her up in prep for transfer

Winter Arrived | Obligatory Talk About Snow 2021

Winter has finally arrived! Most of January it felt like winter was on vacation. When the white stuff did finally make an appearance, we got outside and had some fun! More snow fell in the first week of February than it did in all of January this year. 😲❆❄ We took Baby for a ride around the yard in his new sled that Santa brought him for Christmas. Hubby and I had fun, but Baby wasn't too impressed. He didn't like his hands being tucked away where he couldn't feel the snow with his fingers. A few days later, after several heavy snowfalls, I left Baby and Hubby in the house and wandered out into the woods on my snowshoes. We had perfect tree-coating snow and I just had to capture it with my camera. This week, the temps have been COLD. It was -18°F when I woke up Thursday morning and I was really glad I didn't have to go anywhere until the sun came up. In true U.P. fashion though, it warmed up to 12°F by noon and it felt positively like spring by that point. Nothing lik
