Repotting My Peace Lily | Fresh Start to 2021

Welcome back, it's been awhile. I had intended to post this last Sunday, but alas, life has happened. So there's two posts this week- you can check out the other one here. Hopefully your 2021 is going smoothly.

New years means fresh starts, and this year my long-struggling peace lily got a fresh pot. This plant has been through a lot of change with me. I brought her home when I first moved in with my boyfriend (who is now my husband). She survived the move from our old house to the new one over a year ago, and while happy in the new digs, was pretty glum looking.

I started by dusting her off with a damp paper towel as gently as I could. I plan to water her in the shower once a month from now on to keep the dust down (which is advice I found while researching how to do this on the internet).

After dusting, I trimmed her little brown tips. I'm horrible at remembering to water, so she's suffered brown tips and droop a lot in her life. I spruced her up in prep for transfer.

Then I watered her and forgot about my project for a week because I have an infant and too much else to do.

A week later, I finally took out the indoor potting soil and the new container.

I filled the new pot with soil until I could sit the old one on top and have her sitting at the right height.

Then I removed her from the old pot by squeezing the sides gently and pulled her out in one full motion. It made a total mess of my kitchen floor.

Placed into the new pot, I scooped handfuls of dirt around the edges to tuck her in nice and even, then gave a good watering and returned her to the usual perch.

It's been another week, and she's looking good. Not noticeably better, but definitely not worse.

I'm calling this fresh start for 2021 a success! Have you repotted a peace lily? Do you have suggestions for how to do it better? Let me know in the comments.

Until next time,
Emma Leigh
